This has got to be one of those ‘ohmigosh’ stories; for the last couple of months, several of us in the media have suspected a letter writer by the name of Jessica Morgan to actually be Jessica Craven, the executive assistant to Simcoe-Grey MP Helena Guergis.
After I received another letter on the weekend, I decided I had to confirm it – and confirm it I have.
Now, in Craven’s defence, she claims not to have a conflict of interest in the matter; the letters, she told me this morning, were written on her own time, and the MP wasn’t aware of them.
Never mind that the letters are highly complimentary of her boss; a letter we published a month ago was also very critical of Guergis’ political opponents in the riding.
The one that came in on the weekend, and has not been published, includes this:
Guergis has put forth in the name of our seniors and veterans can be seen in homes across the country with the introduction of pension income splitting. On an annual basis Helena Guergis joins communities across Simcoe Grey in laying a wreath at our cenotaphs with a tear in her eye while she recalls the sacrifices that were made for all of us. I have personally seen our MP get emotional in public as she recalls the personal stories of men, women and children in Afghanistan.
Now, I would compare it to my wife writing letters to the E-B complimentary of the newspaper, and using her maiden name. I can only imagine the uproar that would cause if people found out…
Anyhoo, just got off the phone with a radio producer: I’ll be on Charles Adler show this afternoon…

OMG… Scoop if Helena, Hubby and Her staff keep all of this up you are going to go National soon. I can see it now… Helena is great for your career.
Congratualtions!

No conflict of interest???? If Helena loses her job so does her assistant. How is that NOT a conflict of interest? She’s as swift as her boss.
